Bathroom Renovation wins NSW Award

These owners were unhappy with their old bathroom, with its impractical layout and tired, dated feel, so they decided to take the plunge and renovate. At the top of the must-have list was a better use of the space, together with a modern, comfortable feel. To make the best use of the available space, the plumbing was relocated within the bathroom and a door was moved to allow the designer to achieve the best layout. In addition, two old timber windows were removed and replaced with more modern aluminium frames and frosted safety glass. The most stunning visual aspect of this new bathroom is the travertine tiles that adorn the walls and floor. Gorgeous natural tones in cappuccino and ivory create a comfortable and welcoming ambiance. To create the impression of more space, the same tiles were used on both walls and floor for a continuous flow of colour and shade, while the mosaic tiles create feature spaces. This is not a large bathroom, but clever design means a shower, bath, toilet and double-bowl vanity could be included. The walk-in shower, with fixed glass panel, maximises use of space and features an overhead shower plus a wall-mounted shower rail for a truly luxurious feel. “The client was extremely happy with the end result,” says David Khamis from Tranquil Renovations. “The high standard of tiling is highlighted by the use of coloured epoxy grouting, which shows off the colour of the tiles.” It’s easy to see why this stunning space was the winner of the 2009 Housing Industry Association NSW’s Large Bathroom over 5sqm category.
